Located in the centre of Sao Luis. Although with quite old building, the room was cozy, cleaned and comfortable. We stayed at this posada for the way to Barreirinhas.

This pousada is located right in the heart of the colonial part of Sao Luis, with Portuguese architecture of exquisite age and beauty. The rooms are exactly as pictured, with hardwood floors and an antique feel, with beds that are fairly soft. We wouldn't have changed it for the world, as our interest was in seeing the colonial environs, which were absolutely photogenic. The ferry boat to Alcantara is just a few blocks away, and we also spent a day at the beach, braving a local bus for less than two reais apiece (a 20 minute ride). If you are looking for an authentic place to stay frequented by Brazilian travelers, this is the one.
It is no fault of the pousada, but Sao Luis is not perfectly safe. You will notice a handful of police in the colonial center at all times. There is no problem at all during the day, but staying out until the wee hours is not to be advised.

This city hotel had a great location in the historic center close to shops and restaurants. The rooms were spacious and clean, offering beautiful views with large windows. The staff was friendly and accommodating, offering helpful recommendations for local activities.
The hotel lacked good soundproofing, making it noisy at times. The breakfast was limited and not very appetizing.

The design and use of the old buildings are nice. The location is great if you just want to explore the old city heart.
The room (10, groundlevel) was a bit chaotic anti-design, the bathroom was very old and with electric shower and I was awaken rudely by noise (walking, etc) of our upstairs neighboors arriving. The door had no handle and did just close with the lock... when turning it against clockwise. All oc this is a bit too much, especially after converting the roomrate in euro's.

Huge room. Comfortable bed. Good quality linen. I liked the fact that hotel staff took the breakfast in the same premises: added good atmosphere.
Access to the room involved going up and down several stairs, but really minor.
